This week’s memory verse:

“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.”
(Hebrews 3:1)

seems to prepare us well for the holy season of Lent.  “Fix your thoughts on Jesus.”  As we move through Lent we will be fixing our thoughts on Jesus!

1.) Midweek services – “Sounds of the Passion.” … fixing our thoughts on the sounds and emotions associated with Christ’s suffering.
2.) Sunday services – “24” … fixing our thoughts on Jesus’ final hours. What events transpired leading up to our Lord’s crucifixion?
3.) Fasting – … fixing our thoughts on Jesus rather than some earthly “comfort” which can sometimes make us more at home in the world, rather than looking to our eternal home with anticipation.  Only Christ can satisfy.
4.) Devotion – … fixing our thoughts on what Christ accomplished in His suffering.  (Lenten devotional booklets are available beginning tonight at church!)

Whether you lay something down, or take something up – or do both – I encourage you to fix your thoughts on Jesus this Lent!

Blessings in Christ,

P.S.  If you are interested in fasting, here’s an article that I wrote on the topic of “Fasting for Lent”
